The new Gara Rock in Devon will be unveiled in Summer 2018, and will set new standards as one of the finest boutique retreats on the UK coastline.
Situated near Salcombe and hugging unspoiled South Devon coastline, Gara Rock will feature five new loft suites, six sea view apartments, five existing cottages and twelve apartments, a restaurant and bar, a private cinema room, an indoor as well as cliff-top, heated outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, treatment rooms and its own beach. Gara Rock will also offer boat and Land Rover transfers to and from Salcombe.
Gara Rock is a key landmark on the South West Coastal Path, formerly the site featuring cottages for the coastguards. The coastguards were employed in the 19th century to prevent any illegal smuggling on the remote coastline and used The Lookout Hut to scour the open seas, protect the coastline and watch for any boats in difficulty. Today Gara Rock is where walkers often stop off to enjoy a hot chocolate in winter and sundowners in summer as the sun sets across the water.
With world-class views, unrivalled culinary experiences and superb spa facilities this secluded retreat will be the ultimate place for city dwellers seeking fresh air, space and a special place to switch off. Given the magnificent beauty of Gara Rock, it is no wonder that the management team is made up of many locals who have such strong links to the property and its history.
Wonderfully romantic, the new suites will feature private terraces overlooking Prawle Point and meadows that meet rugged cliffs and the sea, with roll top baths and wood-panelled walls.
The heart of Gara Rock will be the all-day dining offering throughout the property, providing visitors to Gara Rock with a dining experience at any time.
Headed up by Head Chef Lewis Glanvill, visitors to Gara Rock will be treated to a season led, great British menu using finely sourced produce from local farmers and fishermen, and will be known for its unrivalled seafood offering. The Restaurant will provide Salcombe with a premium culinary experience that it so deserves, introducing an ultimate long-lunch hotspot in a world-class setting. With al fresco seating, wood-fired pizza ovens and outdoor fire pits The Restaurant enables local residents and guests to celebrate the rugged and wonderfully wild coastline all year round.
This will be the only bar in Salcombe that captures the breathtaking sunset and will become the ‘Salcombe Sundowner’ hotspot. The Bar at Gara Rock serves as an idyllic place for well-earned drinks for walkers, pre-dinner drinks or a memorable spot to toast something special.
Gara Rock will also be home to The Lounge, where visitors can warm up by the roaring fire and enjoy a light snack or a drink before lunch or dinner at The Restaurant in this cosy spot. This will offer guests a relaxed dining option in the day that so many top retreats lack, whilst also offering a sought-after spot to meet in the evening. There will be a private dining space or the option for people to take over The Lodge exclusively for special occasions or weddings. Four legged friends are also most welcome.
The Lookout Hut
Situated in the field opposite the property, The Lookout Hut will offer walkers and guests a wonderful array of hearty English food from the famous Gara Rock pasty to Devon ice cream, hot drinks and cold beers with a view. The ever-changing panorama is a local landmark and an inspiring lunch stop.
For couples, Gara Rock provides British romance at its best. Gara Rock’s loft suites will feature roll top baths, wood panelled walls and private terraces overlooking meadows that meet rugged cliffs. Guests can treat a loved one to a candlelit dinner or a glass of champagne in the cliff-top viewpoint after a romantic picnic on the secluded beach. Gara Rock will also feature bespoke touches throughout including picnic hampers filled with farm shop treats for long treks or short strolls.
Family guests will be delighted by the adventure offered at Gara Rock. Both a children’s and adults' playground, families can enjoy picnics or BBQs on the beach, surfing and fishing lessons, foraging trails, yoga classes for all ages, and foodie masterclasses. After days filled with old fashioned fun in the seaside air, families can cosy up by the fire in The Lounge or relax in their own cottage and play one of the hotel’s board games.
Introductory rates start from £150 per night inclusive of breakfast and VAT.
